The Art of the Brick: Philly

When we were in Philly last week, we went to the Franklin Institute for the featured exhibit: The Art of the Brick! I had seen the show ten years ago (oh goodness, that was a long time ago!) and it was really cool to see the newer pieces and Nathan Sawaya's classic masterpieces.
There was a huge build your own lego creation section at the end including a "design a car" area complete with ramp track to race. Did we sit on the ground, build cars, and race...you bet we did!! Legos are pretty awesome and even two millennials love to make creations too!

Cherry Blossoms Bloom in Brooklyn

When it has rained for most of March and the first week of April and you have have a clear, albeit chilly, weekend...you head straight for the Botanical Gardens! We trekked to Brooklyn to check out the early signs of spring in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and had a really lovely time soaking up the sun!
The cherry blossom were on full display and we had such a lovely time walking beneath the pink and white blossoms! The conservatory area reminiscent of Europe with the architecture and planned garden full of budding trees. The Japanese garden area was also in full bloom with the trees so beautifully reflected in the water.

It may not be the DC Cherry Blossoms, but this is the best place around to check out the season delights!

Brooklyn Museum

I hadn't been to the Brooklyn Museum in ages so when we were over in Prospect Park over the weekend we made sure to go visit. There were two amazing featured exhibits and we enjoyed pieces from the permanent collection, too.
The main exhibit had just opened the day before we visited. It is a collection of pieces from Alicia Keys and Swizz Beats' Dean Collection. It spotlights works by Black diasporic artists, part of the museum's ongoing efforts to expand the art-historical narrative. The other is a collection of silk prints showcasing 19th century Tokyo -- they were just stunning!

The museum has a really cool edgy feel to it, the exhibits always meld classic and modern and are often powerfully curated to be a reflection of society. I highly recommend if ever in Brooklyn!
